Top Rank and Golden Boy are the two big promotional companies in boxing. There isn’t much variation for boxers to choose from but things are slowly changing. 50 Cent started SMS Promotions and has been working his way up in the business. Coming in right behind him is Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports who recently secured their license and is ready to roll. BET caught up with boxing champion Bernard Hopkins and got his take on the two rap superstars entering the boxing world.
Hopkins says he’s all for anyone who gets in the game to sincerely enhance it. He also says no one promoter should run boxing. Right now that would be Golden Boy. With SMS and Roc Nation coming in, it’ll add more variation and options for the boxers therefore giving them more leverage.
