Tupac Biopic Starts Shooting This Summer

News to “Keep Ya Head Up!!!” In another string of west coast epics coming to the silver screen, Tupac Biopic to Start Shooting This Summer after a long awaited delay behind the scenes. And breathe easy…this one’s in good hands!

Among the best news about the Tupac Biopic to Start Shooting This Summer is the fact that it’s production company Morgan Creek has secured the rights to his music catalog. (A great sign that we’ll avoid the Aaliyah-biopic mess). As anyone doing any posthumous tribute project should do, the company acquired the licensing necessary once it partnered–that’s right partnered with Pac’s mother Afeni Shakur, who is one of the film’s executive producers. (Hopefully a concrete sign that Mama Afeni/his estate is also getting paid)!

In addition the film’s producer Randall Emmett has given some encouraging words about the project, saying “the script is great and we’re ready to make the movie, we’re just prepping the logistics.” As far as the content of the story for the Tupac Biopic to Start Shooting This Summer, it’s reported to be a look at his upbringing and rise to fame. Producers say it will NOT center around the “East Coast/West Coaf Beef” so many have built stories on, though it will cover it. Emmett continued:

“We want to be real and raw, about the things and the gangster life that he was involved in, growing up in the way that he grew up. But we also want to honor the talent that he had because he really was, in my opinion for sure, one of the greatest talents that ever lived in music and hip-hop.”

While casting and even the title of the movie are still works in progress or just so far unannounced, the next best thing about the movie is the director. John Singleton–that’s right John Singleton of “Boyz N the Hood,” “Poetic Justice” and other staple films is slated to direct. The forward progress of the movie is a welcome relief after lengthy court battles between Afeni and the production company, due to her fight for “extensive creative control.”

From what we’ve seen result from other biopics, plays, etc.–she’s absolutely right to fight for everything she can. “There’s culture vultures everywhere,” …we definitely “Ain’t Mad at Cha!” Check the vid for one of the last great 2Pac film projects.

Will you be seeing this???
