Eight children will have to live the rest of their lives without their mother after 42 year-old Raynette Turner was found dead in her jail cell. This news comes just days after Sanda Bland a Chicago woman, who was found dead in a Texas jail cell was buried. Turner was arrested on a minor shoplifting charge Saturday and Monday she was found dead. Police are still investigating.

Raynette Turner was busted stealing a box of crab legs from a Restaurant Depot in Westchester. The woman had a three prior arrested for shoplifting and according to police, was the suspect in an incident at a Target store earlier that day.

Police took Turner into custody Saturday and held her over the weekend until Monday’s arraignment. Over the weekend, Turner told police she was not feeling well and on account of her history of hypertension and going under bariatric surgery for weight loss, she was taken to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital.

Following her brief hospital visit she was returned to jail and Monday afternoon, while police did their rounds, Turner was found unresponsive in her cell. She was pronounced dead at 2PM.

Turner’s husband, showed up in court for Monday’s arraignment but was told by police his wife was not feeling well. He was not informed of his wife’s death until Tuesday morning when detectives showed up to his home .

The Turner family lawyer, Osvaldo Gonzalez said police are being tight-lipped about the whole situation. He said, “The detectives won’t say a word about anything. There’s total silence.”

Raynette Turner’s cause of death is still unknown. The D.A. for Mount Vernon said, “We are working with the Mount Vernon Police Department, assisting them in the investigation of this death,” adding, “An autopsy is being performed today and we are awaiting the results of it.”
