Last Sunday, Dez Bryant, wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys broke a small bone in his foot during a match up against the New York Giants. Bryant was shown celebrating after the Dallas victory, but that was when team doctors thought he’d only be out 4-6 weeks.

Post-surgery, Dez is expected to miss more than half of the season! One can say that Bryant is not celebrating anymore.

The star receiver was shown whooping and slapping five with teammates and staff after a wild comeback and defeat of the Giants. He was not worried about the small break in his foot at the time, but now the issue is bigger than the Cowboys thought.

During the surgery on Monday, Bryant needed a graft procedure to take place. This is causing Bryant to miss more than half the season which was definitely not in the plans for the Cowboys offense.

Bryant just signed a a five-year, $70 million contract with the Cowboys back in July. The franchise player received his franchise tag in March, but fought with the Dallas front office to negotiate a long-term deal.

Bryant made his statement by missing OTAs and mini camp sessions just before the new season. He even said that he would sit out Week 1 if he did not have the appropriate contract in place.

The contract guarantees $45 million and the Dallas front office has to be wondering if they made the right decision. Granted, they didn’t know Bryant would suffer an injury at all, let alone during the first game.

Though Bryant could be placed on an injury reserve list which would have him out for a mandatory 8 weeks, the Cowboys are hopeful for a sooner return.
