A toddler is in stable condition after being struck by a SUV that jumped the curb in Queens. The toddler was in the arms of her aunt, 52-year-old Meena Mahabir, who was standing at a bus stop on the corner of Atlantic Ave. and 108th St. with the toddler’s mom when they were struck by a white SUV that ran a red light.

The SUV ran a red light at the intersection where the trio were standing causing an accident that sent the truck onto the sidewalk.

Witnesses describe seeing Mahabir throw her 2-year-old niece onto the sidewalk and out of the path of the SUV in a final act of selflessness, ultimately saving the toddler’s life.

The family was rushed to a nearby hospital where Mahabir was pronounced dead while the toddler’s condition improved from critical to stable over the course of the day.

The two drivers in the accident are both in stable condition with minor injuries.
