According to a report from Fox16, some students at Arkansas Tech, a university in Russellville, AR, are upset with a fellow student for dressing up in what they deem an offensive costume for a Halloween costume party. Hit the jump to see the costume.
The photo shows a sorority member of Zeta Tau Alpha dressed up as rapper Lil Wayne. The Wednesday costume contest received attention all over campus because of the girl’s decision to paint herself in blackface.
“It’s blackface. It’s 2015. Like why? What were you thinking? Why do you think this is OK?” responded African-American Student Association President Hailey Robinson. “If you look at the historical reference to what they did it’s not a joking matter. And they took it as a game. I don’t take my black identity as a game.”
The university is still investigating the incident and the girl could be required to attend a diversity workshop.
She did NOT use blackface. She used bronzer. The pictures originally sent to the media were photoshopped to be darker to garner attention. Lil Wayne is this young lady’s favorite rapper. She dressed up as a tribute not to make fun and she did a great job! The Local news stations have already been bombarded by people asking them to report the truth rather than sensationalizing it by calling it blackface. The real picture has now primarily replaced the photoshopped version but thus now viral story is still calling it blackface, which it isn’t. People need to get educated. This girl is devastated! She is SO sweet. Has always been kind to everyone. It’s a shame those so full of hate with their only agenda being to further the racial divide are being given credence while no one has hears from this sweet young lady. I wish Lil Wayne would show her some love and let the world know he wasn’t offended by this fan who wanted to represent him in the costume contest. It would go a long way to easing racial tensions in this country, shut the haters down and help her past this damaging experience.
