According to the website Deadspin, some low life was trying to sell the video of Laremy Tunsil smoking for the past couple weeks. It’s clear it was posted by someone with hate in their heart who wanted some money out of it but when no money came, they just posted it online to ruin Tunsil.

@IamJoeSports

To recap, at about 7:47pm last night, 13 minutes before draft, someone posted a video of Tunsil smoking weed in a gas mask to his actual verified twitter account. It’s clear he was hacked because he was sitting at the NFL draft at the time but nonetheless, the damage was done. The Ravens were set to pick him at #6 but he wound up sliding down to the Dolphins at #13 and losing millions in the process.

According to Deadspin, they received an email a couple weeks ago from someone looking for cash for the video, but Deadspin decided to ignore them because they didn’t feel it was a story.

On April 12 we received an email in our tips inbox:

40 sec video of Projected top 5 pick in the 2016 NFL draft smoking drugs (crack or weed) from gas mask. Looking to sell.

The email address is apparently a throwaway, but it arrived under the name “Laremy Tunsil.” Somewhat tickled by the caginess of the text when the ostensible subject was right there in the “from” column, we replied, half-facetiously:

Is it Laremy Tunsil?

The emailer promptly replied.

yes.

They then sent three screen shots from the video that emerged last night.

We did nothing after that. We will pay for a good story (email us!), but a college kid smoking weed is not a story at all.

(Nor, it should be noted, is a college kid getting money from coaches to help pay his rent. What is news in that text exchange posted to Instagram is a multi-million-dollar program nickel-and-diming a college kid over a utility bill.)

A day later, after we had not responded to the emailer, they tried one more time.

?

We didn’t reply, and that’s the last we heard from them.

Although he is denying it, Tunsil’s stepfather, Lindsey Miller, is the main suspect as the person who leaked the video. He filed a lawsuit against Tunsil earlier this same week in regards to a domestic dispute the two men had last year. Tunsil says he was defending his mother from Miller and that’s why he got physical, Miller as you would expect has a different story.

Miller told police that Tunsil hit him at least six times, that the attack was unprovoked, and that the argument started over Tunsil having impermissible contact with agents. NCAA investigators interviewed Miller over his claims that he had proof of rules violations committed by Ole Miss.

The two men dropped charges against each other a month after the fight but as I mentioned, earlier this week Miller filed the lawsuit, claiming Tunsil assaulted him and defamed his character. The suit alleges “intentional infliction of emotional distress.”

This stepfather sounds like a real nice guy, smh. Hopefully sometime soon Tunsil and his legal team will be able to prove who leaked the video.
