NFL: Black Monday Came Early; 49ers, Browns & More Fired Their Head Coaches

Today is the legendary Black Monday where underperforming teams usually fire their head coaches and other members of the front office staff.  This year however, some teams decided not to wait for today and got the ball rolling early.


NFL: Game Over! New York Jets Fire Head Coach Rex Ryan

Rex Ryan has officially been fired by the New York Jets on Black Monday after a long 6-year tenure. The former head coach “led New York to the AFC title game twice in his first two seasons and even scored a book deal and contract extension.” However, things pretty much died down afterwards, as the Jets NEVER made it to another playoffs, ending this season with a horrible record of 4-12…yet it seems feelings are mutual, as Ryan couldn’t wait to leave NY, cleaning out his office WAY before Sunday’s game. NFL teams do not play. If they know they are not happy with you as a coach, they fire you literally the day after the season ends, which is why today is usually referred to as “Black Monday”. This is a win now league, and if you have a bad season or two, you better hope you have a strong resume to help you keep your job, otherwise you are out the door. A total of 5 coaches were fired today from the Redskins, Browns, Lions, Vikings and Bucs. A couple of them probably deserved it, but a couple didn’t.
