Jay-Z Speaks On J. Cole’s First Week Sales

Yesterday afternoon, news broke that Jay-Z’s protege and flagship artist on his Roc Nation imprint debuted with huge numbers for his first album. “Cole World: The Sideline Story” sold 218k units, making it the number one album in the country. Jay gave Cole a feature for the record and obviously gave him his start by signing him and having him appear on the Blueprint 3 album, but other than that…there was no major push on Jay’s behalf. There also wasn’t much airplay or video play at ALL, so this number is a true testament of what fans can do. Check out what Jay had to say below. Marisa Mendez

J. Cole Speaks On Number One Album Sales

Earlier today, the news officially broke that J. Cole hit that number ONE spot on the Billboard 200 this week, with his debut album “Cole World: The Sideline Story” moving over 215,000 units in its first week out. Those numbers are huge within themselves, but the fact that he had NO major airplay or videos on TV makes it even crazier!!
