Jeremih Blasts Def Jam Over Album Rollout

Just like his labelmate August Alsina, Jeremih is none too pleased with Def Jam Recordings. Could it be the label dropping the ball lately, or are the artists’ expectations too high? Hmm! After a LONG time of delays – we’re talking years – Jeremih finally dropped his third studio album, Late Nights, last Friday. Despite featuring hit singles like the J. Cole-assisted “Planes” and 2014’s “Don’t Tell ‘Em,” the project only moved a dismal 10,894 copies, and naturally, Jeremih is pissed. He blames it on his label, who he says really messed this one up.

(Photo) August Alsina Goes Off On Def Jam For Leaking Album

August Alsina had some choice words for his label last night, after finding out his album, This Thing Called Life, was leaked days before its December 11th release date. Clearly frustrated, Alsina went on a full blown Twitter rant calling out Def Jam, claiming they were the ones responsible for the leak. Hit the jump for more.

Will you be copping both?

(Photos) Hmm…Has Rick Ross Left Def Jam For Epic Records?

When artists sign a record deal, there is a specified number of albums that they’re required to put out to fulfill the contract. This can vary from artist to artist, depending upon various factors – such as whether the label sees the person/group as having longevity or being just a flash in the pan with a hit single or two – among other things. Often times these deals are pretty iron clad, and the only way to get out of them is by spending a pretty large amount of money. So when artists may be ready to leave (especially ones who signed a deal for a large quantity of albums), sometimes they do things like rush and put out multiple albums in a short period of time…and that may be what happened last year with Rick Ross. In 2014, Rozay gave us TWO albums in less than a year’s span, Mastermind and Hood Billionaire. This brought his tally up to 7 with Def Jam, and that quite possibly fulfilled his contract…as he’s currently posting photos with Epic Records boss L.A. Reid on social media, one with a caption that reads:

“BIG $$$ FLEW IN!! BIG $$$ ON THE TABLE!!SALUTE Mr #LAReid // #EPICRECORDS HEIR TO THE THRONE!! $$$$$!!”

Hmm! Could Epic be Rozay’s new home? He’ll then share a roster with Future, Travi$ Scott and more. Let us know in the comments if you think that’s a good fit!

A Def Jam Biopic…Starring Jonah Hill? It May Be Coming!

Upon reading this headline, I’m sure two things went through your mind: 1. ANOTHER biopic? Can we f*cking relax for a second?! 2. Who the in the world on the Def Jam roster would Jonah Hill play? Well I don’t have an answer for number one other than – I know, bro. I feel you. As for two? It’s no one on the roster that Universal is eyeing, it’s for the part of Rick Rubin, the famous label’s co-founder. Makes a lot more sense now, huh? According to reports, Universal is in the early stages of planning a Def Jam biopic, eyeing Michael B. Jordan to play Russell Simmons alongside Hill’s Rick Rubin. This could actually be really dope if done right, as there’s SO many years of history there. Either way, we have some time, as there are no deals currently in place for the film.

Album Cover: Logic – The Incredible True Story

After announcing the project’s title last week, Def Jam rapper Logic has released the cover art for his sophomore album, The Incredible True Story. The project is set to hit stores later this year, and though we haven’t heard any music from it just yet, it appears to have an interesting Sci-Fi theme judging by the artwork and the trailer! Check out an extended version of the cover in the gallery.

Album Cover: Ludacris – Ludaversal

Two years ago, Ludacris drove his 93 Acura Legend (which I’m assuming he’s kept over the years to remind him of where he started) up to his private plane, and posted the photo on Instagram with the caption:

My plane & my 93 Acura Legend. It’s doesn’t get much more Gangsta than that. Lol

Now as he gears up to release his new album Ludaversal on March 31, the father-to-be (again) has decided to use the image as his album cover. Started.
