At the ripe young age of 14, New York native Roxanne Shante rose to fame after making a reply record to U.T.F.O.’s 1984 hit, “Roxanne, Roxanne,” at the encouragement of DJ Mister Magic, Tyrone Williams and Marley Marl. “Roxanne’s Revenge” became a huge smash and launched her career, along with a huge “Roxanne War” in NYC. She eventually retired and later revealed she’d went on to get a Ph.D – which ended up being exposed as a lie.

Over the weekend, the first episode of the Roots remake aired – which chronicles the history of an African slave sold to America and his descendants. The story has been controversial and some – like Snoop Dogg – have spoke out against it, while others like T.I. (who’s in the movie) are in support of it. O’Shea Jackson Jr. falls under the former. DAMN! Inspiring. With a jam packed, star-studded cast of Oprah, Forest Whitaker, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, James Marsden, Robin Williams, Lenny Kravitz and plenty others, “The Butler” is something I am really looking forward to watching. This has the potential to make millions! Whitaker plays, Eugene Allen a guy who served eight U.S. Presidents over the course of 30 years (true story), and with all the things that American has gone through his family was able to endure as well. Looks good. Drop down bottom and check it out.
