The “Super Mayor” has done countless self-less acts such as delivering diapers in a snow storm, offering his home to those in need after Hurricane Sandy, brought Hot Pockets to those without food after the hurricane, running into a burning building and more. A New Jersey man’s wife called the police to tell them that her husband was planning to blow up the plane he was going to travel on to Paris. You would think this was a great thing how she thought logically enough to stop the love of her life from committing such a terrible tragedy. Except when the man was arrested the police learned that the wife only did it after the pair had argued! Newark Mayor Cory Booker is going to live off of food stamps for a week, a challenge that he accepted to shed light on the plight of families who have no other options than to use food stamps to survive. A national average shows that people living off food stamps can allocate about $4.44 a day for food. Booker has been using the term #SNAPChallenge on twiiter to spread the word. I’m not very heavily into politics, so you won’t catch me following many government officials on my Twitter (sorry Barack, you still got my vote though!). However, one person I do find quite a joy in twatching is Newark, NJ mayor, Cory Booker. With over one million followers under his belt, the politician has used social media like no other official before him to help his city, especially in times of need. During the dreadful snow storms of winter 2010/2011, Cory was getting status reports from his residents via Twitter, bringing aide to their doorstep after they alerted him of their conditions and DM’d him their address. In Hurricane Sandy, he was just as instrumental. In fact, he even opened his home to residents with no power, providing them with hot meals, movies and more!
