Less than 140 characters was all Erykah Badu needed to cause a big mess for Universal Music Group. In fact, it only took her 14.
Miss Badu and her nearly 400,000 followers sparked a #ripmotown trending topic frenzy after she simply tweeted “Motown folded.”
In order to quell the web-based chaos that has ensued, UMG executives have issued a statement confirming Sylvia Rhone‘s resignation. However, they insist that nothing has folded.
UMG executives say that are committed to Motown maintaining its strong presence in the music scene, and they will keep the public updated. “We will soon announce important additions to the staff and will further invest in building its artist roster,” they stated, “so Motown can continue to bring to market the highest quality music that is best positioned to succeed artistically and commercially.”
