Wow. After reading the first part of the letter, one can’t help but become immediately saddened by what the Till family has endured due to the loss of a loved one as a result of racism and gruesome violence. The overwhelming response to Lil Wayne’s choice of words come from an array of celebrities, including Stevie Wonder, causing enough backlash resulting in Future’s record label to remove the controversial lyric from the song. Days after dealing with the disrespect to their loved one, a grieving family addresses Lil Wayne’s lyrics in an open letter sent to Vibe Magazine.

The Estate of Emmett Till writes,

How would you feel is your child was beaten beyond recognition, body mutilated and disfigured, tortured for hours, unnecessarily shot after being BEATEN TO DEATH, lynched in barbed wire weighted down by a 70 pound cotton gin fan and tossed in a river with intent to never be found again?
