I guess this was one deal the Colts are happy they never made. In an interview with the Indianapolis Star, Colts owner Jim Irsay Jr gives us some inside information about what the Colts were thinking back in 2004. I was shocked to read this. See more after the jump.

@IamJOE357

Jim Irsay told a reporter that back in 2004, then Colts GM Bill Polian wanted to trade Peyton Manning, but not for reasons you may think. Manning’s contract was about to be up and Polian believed strongly that Peyton was worth much more than they could afford at the time. He also hoped if he put him on the trade market, the Colts might get a record type of deal regarding the players they would get in a trade for a hall of famer like Manning. Thankfully for the Colts organization, they were able to come up with the $99 million contract that Peyton signed 8 years ago tomorrow. Imagine how different things may of been for Indy and for Manning himself if he left there in 2004. The next season he won NFL MVP, and the season after that Manning won his first Super Bowl. You can be sure that is one deal they are happy they never did.
