Wale’s new album The Gifted drops on June 25th, and the interesting cover art has stirred up a bit of controversy. Taking to his Instagram, the MMG rappers responded to the naysayers and explained why he chose to make that the cover. Se what he said below.
A lot of (somewhat) controversy over my cover. I know it was bold and very “what was he thinking”. There is a real meaning behind it all. I’m at the point now that alot of my true fans need the entertainment of breaking things down beyond the surface. The way we think about art vs music . I wanted a cover that tied directly into the music and the purpose of the album #thegifted . I know who and what I’m up against in June.(we all know). Allow me to express my artistic POV . Allow yourself to be a part of it. This album I refused to cheat the listeners . NOT this project. Think STORYBOOK. When u get this look at the cover and listen simultaneously.
