Isn’t ice cream supposed to melt if it isn’t kept in the freezer? Well not according to Walmart it seems. The Walmart brand “Great Value” ice-cream sandwiches do NOT melt in the sun. Even when left out for 12 hours on a hot summer day! This discovery was made by Christie Watson a local mother who was feeding the non-melting desserts to her children.

“What am I feeding to my children?!” Watson exclaimed when she made the startling discovery. A Walmart spokesperson had this to say: “Ice cream with more cream will generally melt at a slower rate, which is the case with our Great Value ice cream sandwiches.” The real answer is in the number of additives they use in the ice-cream. Walmart’s website list the ingredients to contain “One percent or less” of the following: mono-and diglycerides, vanilla extract, guar gum, calcium sulfate, carob bean gum, cellulose gum, carrageenan, artificial flavor, and annatto for color.” An experiment was conducted in which a Walmart ice-cream sandwich was left alongside a Klondike bar and a pint of Haagen Daz. The Haagen Daz melted fastest along with the Klondike bar but the Walmart ice cream still maintained its shape and wasn’t fully melted. I mean who needs to eat “ice cream” that doesn’t melt? EW.
