Sports teams in the same area always have a good rivalry, like how the media tried to push the Knicks and Nets.  Well Texas has three teams, the Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets.  The Mavericks and Spurs have a long history with the Spurs usually coming out on top but now that the Rockets are re-emerging as contenders, a new rivalry has arisen.

via ESPN:

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Rockets GM Daryl Morey like to go at each other. That is one of the reasons why Cuban and his Mavs tendered a three-year, $46 million offer sheet to free agent forward Chandler Parsons that was not matched by Morey.

“Oh, all good business is personal. Trust me, there’s nobody more competitive than me,” Cuban told KRLD-FM 105.3 on Friday, according to The Dallas Morning News. Every bit of me wanted to kick his (Morey) ass and I would have felt bad. Obviously they got Dwight Howard a couple of years ago. Yeah, I wanted to beat him. And that’s a compliment to him. Daryl is very smart. It was very much like a game of chess.”

Cuban maintains the San Antonio Spurs are the Mavs’ main rival, but that could change.

“It’s still the Spurs. Probably the Rockets more now with what happened to Parsons,” said Cuban. “Oklahoma City is still going to be strong. But, yeah, it’s still got to be the Spurs.”

The Mavs and Rockets first 2014-15 regular season game against each other is on Nov. 22 and this could be a testy contest. The teams do face each other in the first preseason game of 2014 on Oct. 7.
