A young mother is now dead after she was shot in the head by her 3-year old son in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Read more on the sad story after the jump!
The mother, known as Christa Engles, 26, was in the middle of changing her 1-year old daughters diaper. Her 3-year old son found a semiautomatic handgun under the couch. The gun went off and killed Christa. She was living in a home with her mother and husband at the time. Christa was home alone with the children during the time of the accident. Dave Walker, Tulsa police Sgt, said that Christa was rushed to the hospital after her mother arrived home and found her daughter “in the front room of the house as if she was changing the 1-year-old’s diaper.” The two children were covered in blood. Walker stated “we think this is a horrible, horrible accident…The neighbors, family, co-workers, and church family quickly gathered around this family in support of them during this terrible time.”
Her husband Brian Engles, who is a truck driver arrived to the home many hours later. He expressed his thoughts of the incident to friends and family on Facebook by saying, “I lost my wife to an accident yesterday…don’t forget to tell your loved ones they are loved. You really never know when the last I love you is really the last.”
Authorities confirmed that the child did indeed pull the trigger after speaking to the 3-year old. It is still unknown as to why the gun was under the couch.
