The name of “The Next Episode” is #staywinning! Dr. Dre Wins Lawsuit Against New Death Row Records which if you didn’t know, was sued last year by the Hip Hop legend for years of misuse and abuse. But it wasn’t the name Dre cared about, so what exactly was the beef??? And (sidebar) his lawyer’s official statement includes a priceless song title drop!
After hearing Dr. Dre Wins Lawsuit Against New Death Row Records and after you wrap your head around the fact that yes, somewhere in our United States is a record label by the name of WIDEawake Death Row Records—marinate on the fact that it was them actually selling his music without permission that had the mogul ‘feeling some type of way’ (the audacity!!!). Vlad TV reports on the recently turned 50-years-old Dre suing the label when he got wind of them “improperly selling The Chronic” digitally. He also claimed they were distributing his music on compilation albums with no regard, no nod, no clearance, and obviously no respect.
It’s hard to imagine this went on for years but knowing his business savvy, the misconceptions he’s overcome and how far he’s gone in the music industry, you could bet Dr. Dre Wins Lawsuit Against New Death Row Records and got his justice sooner or later. While “things just ain’t the same for gangstas“–fighting for not just samples but their catalogs now, it was the bold ignorance and/or failed strategy of the new Death Row that left them virtually nothing to defend themselves with in court. Speaking of court…check out Dre’s lawyer Howard King speaking after the verdict, saying:
“For years, Death Row Records forgot about Dre when they continued to distribute his music digitally and combined his hits with weaker Death Row tracks in an attempt to elevate the stature of their other artists,” King stated. “We are gratified that the federal court has unambiguously declared that Death Row has no right to engage in such tactics, and must hold all proceeds from these illicit distributions in trust for our client.”
…LOL niiiice (not even sure he realized) and indeed the “Forgot About Dre” case has been open and shut. Dr. Dre Wins Lawsuit Against New Death Row Records and the judge has awarded him 100% of all the profits going forward since they had yet to pay him in full (yikes!)…that’s definitely one way to make people understand the value of music and respecting a name. As far as Dre #forthewin, it’s looking like a great year for the OG already.
He “told you all, all you little gangstas, who you think helped mold you all?”
