IFWT_ Snoop Deputy Feature

Billy Spears, Department of Public Safety Trooper, took a photo with Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion while he was working off-duty security at SXSW in Texas. Snoop posted the picture on his Instagram with the caption “Me and my deputy dogg” and Spears boss went out of his way to make sure he was disciplined for the photo. Well, on Wednesday, April 29th, Spears filed a civil lawsuit for unspecified damages and a trail by jury.

Officer Spears is basing his lawsuit on allegations that DPS Director Steven McCraw and several executives were acting in retaliation to a previous event. One reason to believe so is an officer from Austin took a photo with Snoop; and it was also posted to Instagram, but no action was taken. He says there’s no policy against what he did. The written reprimand stains the officers record, and a Lieutenant from Tyler actually drove 80 miles round trip just to have Spears sign the document! It read, “While working a secondary employment job, Trooper Spears took a photo with a public figure who has a well-known criminal background including numerous drug charges. The public figure posted the photo on social media and it reflects poorly on the Agency.”

What do you think? Was he being unprofessional? Instagram’s got the world upside down!
