The Kobe-Shaq rivalry was well known through out the Lakers dynasty that won 3 championships together. But now the juicy details that ensued throughout the pairings eight years together is starting to come to light and its great! See what a Lakers former employee had to say about one incident where Shaq threatened to kill Kobe.

It would have been great to see how many championships Shaq and Kobe could have won, had they managed to coexist longer. Both superstars felt they had to carve separate paths as they both refused to be considered a sidekick to the other, leading to Shaq demanding and landing a trade after Kobe threatened to leave the franchise when he became a free agent.

Shaq went on to win a championship with a young Dwayne Wade and the Miami heat, but Kobe still has bragging rights after he won two more rings with the Lakers after Shaq left.

John Black, former vice president of public relations for the Lakers said:

John Black: Mostly it was Shaq and Kobe didn’t like each other, but it didn’t affect them on the court. They would say something about the other, on or off the record, but it didn’t become confrontational more than two or three times over the eight years. When Kobe gave the statement to Jim Gray where he went off calling Shaq fat and lazy, that was one of the times. There was one really bad one, early on. Brian Shaw had to pull them apart. Shaq threatened to murder Kobe.

Threatning to kill someone pretty much explains the hatred they both had for each other off the court, but former Laker and hall-of-famer Karl Malone was said to immediately diffuse the situation
