The Dallas Mavericks have had issues landing big name free agents such as Deron Williams, Chris Paul and Dwight Howard.  It appeared things had finally turned around when DeAndre Jordan committed to a four-year, $80 million deal with the team.  As you know, Jordan had a change of heart and after a hilarious night of reportedly being held captive, he agreed to re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers, leaving the Mavericks out in the cold yet again.  Unfortunately for the Mavericks, the domino effect could hurt them big time.

Chris Mannix of SI.com wrote an article on the Mavericks offseason moves, prior to Jordan changing his mind and noted this tidbit:

A byproduct of Dallas’s off-season haul: I’m told the Mavs now believe they are legitimate contenders in next summer’s Kevin Durant sweepstakes. Quite the turnaround in Big D.

Now that Jordan has changed his mind, the Mavericks will reportedly go into rebuilding mode, certainly not a team Durant will consider as he’s still chasing a championship ring.
