(Photos) NFL: NY Jets’ Nick Mangold Wears NYPD Hat Into Stadium

Following the deaths of Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice and others at the hands of the police, many athletes have shown their support by wearing “I Can’t Breathe” and “#BlackLivesMatter” shirts and signs.  On Saturday two New York police officers were shot and killed “execution style” by a gunman who said he was avenging the deaths of Brown and Garner.  Following this incident I’ve seen many people say, “I wonder if athletes will wear shirts and show support for the fallen officers the way they did for the black men killed”.  Well one athlete is showing his support, New York Jets offensive lineman, Nick Mangold.

(Video) NFL: Andrew Hawkins Gives Emotional, Amazing Response to Police Who Called His Justice Shirt Pathetic

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Andrew Hawkins wore a T-shirt reading “Justice for Tamir Rice and John Crawford III” during pregame warmups and introductions on Sunday.  Cleveland police called the gesture “pathetic” and demanded an apology.  Gladly Hawkins nor the Browns apologized but Hawkins did take the time to explain why he wore the shirt. Now that he has, we realize that Hawkins isn’t just some athlete who threw on a t-shirt because it’s the trendy thing to do. He knows what he’s talking about, and he has very good reasons to care.

NFL: Saints Benjamin Watson’s Post About Ferguson Goes Viral & Has Everyone Talking

When New Orleans Saints player Benjamin Watson sat down and decided to share his views on the events occurring in Ferguson, I am sure the last thing on his mind was it going viral. Everyone has had an opinion regarding what happened and he likely thought to himself he was just one of thousands speaking his thoughts via social media. It was something about the way he presented his thoughts however that made everyone stop and read and regardless of what side of the fence you are on, it just makes you think.
