Aw, Man! “Maria” From ‘Sesame Street’ Is Retiring After 44 Years!

The actress who played Maria on Sesame Street, Sonia Manzano, has been on the show for a whopping 44 years. 44 YEARS! This means that not only did we grow up with her (as I’m assuming our readers are in my age demo,) but if you have kids, they likely watch her right now, and if your parents are a bit younger, they may have grown up with her as well! That’s crazy! But of course, all good things must come to an end, and after joining the show in 1971 (but not becoming a full-time character until 1974,) Sonia has officially announced her retirement.

The Surgeon General Chills With Elmo And Goes On US Health Tour

The U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy recently appeared with Sesame Street’s Elmo in a public service ad about children vaccinations, “Get all your vaccinations in time to stay healthy”, he continued. “Don’t worry, Elmo, it’s just a little pinch and it’s safe. And tell all your friends on Sesame Street to get vaccinated too.”

(Video) Aw! Ice Cube Does Magic Tricks With Elmo On Sesame Street

Ice Cube recently headed over to the mean streets of Sesame, and joined Elmo for a little magic to define the word “astounding.” Not only does the former N.W.A. rapper make a penny disappear and pulls a dinosaur out of his hat…he turns himself into an actual ice cube. Now that’s talent. Hard to believe this is the same guy with the jheri curl that was screaming “F*ck Tha Police,” huh? Watch the adorable clip below.

As the U.S. continues to grow to be a “majority minority” nation, Sesame Street has added a third Spanish-speaking character to its cast, and will put a “special focus on Hispanic heritage” in the next season. “Armando” (above with bilingual puppet Rosita) will make his debut in September. The actor is 26-year-old Puerto Rico-born actor Ismael Cruz Cordova.

(Video) MLB: Matt Kemp Stops By “Sesame Street”

Matt Kemp can just do no wrong in my eyes. Lol. The Dodgers star hit up Sesame Street and did a “Word of the Day” segment with a fluttery Muppet named Abby. How cute! The episode airs tomorrow Thursday, March 28th on PBS. Check out the clip after the jump…

Kevin Clash (Voice Of Elmo) Moves To Have His Child Molestation Cases Thrown Out

In the case of Kevin Clash’s three underage sex offense charges, they might be too little too late. According to CLash he Statute of limitations deadline for sexual offense cases of this sort is six years, and all three accusers incidents occurred more than ten years ago. Clash just filed a claim to have all three cases thrown out and he wants them thrown out now. The men claim that they didn’t realize the damage that he had caused until now and that is why they are coming out against it but Clash thinks that’s just BS. I have sympathy for those that have been molested, it’s not cool. I’m sure it could take some people a long time to realize the damage that was done to them, but the law is the law. Hit the jump for more.

(Video) Elmo And Friends Let’s Us Know That They Are Here To Stay!

Can we say funny!? Elmo and friends went to the Thanksgiving Day Parade and said they will NOT be bought down. We had Romney trying to cancel the show and put Big Bird all up in the middle of his politics, then poor Elmo’s name was tarnished when the Kevin Clash scandal came out. Check out the Sesame Street gang sing, “What I Am”. Drop down bottom. JaaiR (JR)
