Well if you consider Redbox working with Verizon as serious, then yeah, Hit the Jump for what the Rumor Is.

Now I use Redbox to get DVD’s for a dollar all the time, BUT I also use Netflx as my only TV source, but if “Project Zoetrope”(the code name for the project between Redbox & Verizon) is real, and at an affordable rate(at least $8 or less a month) I could very well stop going to the Redbox, only problem is the Rumor Is it won’t be an ‘unlimited’ streaming option is not in the cards, there would be a cap on the amount movies Streamed or downloaded…..yeah that’s really not gonna work for them in this market -_-
But we’ll see this Spring, allegedly.
With Verizon’s deep pockets and Redbox’s name association with disc rentals, there is a possibility that these guys could come up with a streaming service that could rival Netflix. The fact that Verizon is thinking about a limit of shows and movies that can be watched for a monthly fee is going to be bad for business, especially since the competition is already doing better than that. I dropped Netflix earlier this year when they raised prices and then threatened to complicate my services with Qwikster. I picked up the Blockbuster Movie Pass from DISH Network because of the open access I have to streaming, DVD/Blu-ray and video game rentals by mail, and I get 20 extra premium channels for just $10 a month. Being that I work for DISH I know that they have a pretty good hold on the entertainment game, and their own ability to compete against Netflix makes them top choice. Verizon and Redbox are going to have to master an ultimate marketing strategy and make their services worthwhile. Rumor also has it that Verizon wants to offer their streaming service in all places that do not have Fios. If anything, I would think that they would want to include everyone as a customer if they want to be taken seriously. Guess we’ll see!
