JR Smith has been catching alot of flack for being a young man in the big city. What I mean by that is he is not doing anything that a guy in his 20’s, enjoying a good life in New York wouldn’t do. Enjoying some drinks, partying, hanging with attractive women. I think the main reason his partying has been getting more attention the past couple weeks has somewhat to do with his below average play on the court recently. If he was still shooting a good percentage and scoring the way the media had become used to, the partying would not even be a story. His father seems to agree. See what his pops said after the jump.

Earl Smith, father of JR has had enough of hearing about his son partying being portrayed negatively. Mr. Smith said

“My thing is, those people need to get off the computer and let professional athletes be professional athletes,’’ Earl said. “If they want to go out on a Saturday night, who gives a damn? Who cares? How come you don’t hear about LeBron [James] after he loses? You don’t think LeBron went out the other night [in Miami]? Leave the professional athletes alone. They know what they’re doing.

He makes a valid point. At the end of the day if someone wants to go out and party then they should, just like any other working man or woman. However 2 things need to be remembered. There is a reason you do not see pictures of Lebron, Wade, Kevin Durant, Kobe and stars of that level partying during the season. It is because it barely happens. Stars do go out on occasion during the season, but save more of the partying for after the season. Also just as important, when you play any sport in New York, the media capital, every little thing you do gets talked about even more. They don’t do that in Denver where JR came from. JR should party all he wants and enjoy it. Just remember if you go out the night before a game and then play terribly, be prepared for them to compare the two.
