So much for Plan B. The European equivalent to our morning-after pill may have some flaws. Turns out that the birth control alternative won’t work for women that are over 176 pounds. The company, Norlevo, is now updating its packaging to warn women of the requirements. I’d sure hate to be the couple that found out the hard way. Hit the jump for more info.

According to numerous sources, the pill loses effectiveness in women weighing over 165 pounds and is completely useless to women over 176 pounds. This now has the FDA contemplating labels for American Plan B’s.

Because the Food and Drug Administration prohibits generic drug manufacturers from changing product information unless the brand name manufacturer makes a change, companies that manufacture generic versions of Plan B One-Step cannot update their packaging information unless Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, the exclusive manufacturer of Plan B One-Step, acts first. (The FDA has proposed a rule change that would allow generic manufacturers to update drug information independently.)

Ironically, many of the American brands similar to Plan B declined to comment.
