The US Treasury Department’s Office of Inspector General states released a nine page report declaring that J and B did NOT break any US sanctions laws.

The April 2013 trip angered a lot of Republicans, especially in Florida, because tourist activities are illegal under the US embargo against Cuba.

The backlash and outrage caused Jay-Z to write an open letter and rap about it in one of his songs!

According to the report, their trip was completely legal because the license they acquired to enter the country was “properly licensed by the Office of Foreign Assets Control under the “people-to-people” educational exchange program.”

Their licensed was issued by a non-profit organisation that promotes education in the areas of arts and architecture.

Even though, they engaged in educational activities, the couple was still seen doing some touristic activities which caused people to be skeptical and enraged.

However, the report released determined it was not illegal, stating

We believe OFAC’s determination that there was no apparent violation of U.S. sanctions with respect to Jay Z and Beyonce’s trip to Cuba.”
