R&B singer Sevyn Streeter made headlines when she revealed the Philadelphia 76ers wouldn’t allow her to sing the national anthem after she arrived in a jersey with “We Matter” written on it. After some backlash, the Sixers issued an apology and invited Sevyn to come back and sing the anthem.

Last week the Philadelphia 76ers made a terrible decision to not allow Sevyn Streeter to sing the National Anthem because she was wearing a shirt that said “We Matter” across the front. They found out about her shirt only minutes before she was scheduled to sing and pulled the plug which was not only embarrassing to her but was also a public relations nightmare for the franchise (and rightfully so). They apologized shortly after and invited Sevyn back to sing whenever she wanted and it appears she accepted the apology today.

Welp, it took the Philadelphia 76ers a few days to realize the error of their ways but they have finally apologized to Sevyn Streeter for not allowing her to sing the national anthem on Wednesday because she was wearing a shirt that read “We Matter”. The franchise has been bombarded with negative comments via social media and in general since news broke that they wouldn’t let her sing. Even the players and coach of the team were upset with the decision the front office made. They admitted the wrong decision was made in a statement today, where they invited Sevyn back with the hopes she will accept.

They told her that her “We Matter” jersey would not fly with them, and though they offered their team jersey in its place, she refused because it defeated the purpose. This morning, Hot 97’s Ebro In The Morning got Sevyn on the phone as she was in the airport leaving Philly, and she broke down the unfortunate situation. Hopefully the team will offer up an apology! This is crazy.
