Phil Jackson might have a “good feeling” about Carmelo returning to the Knicks but he wouldn’t be able to tell you that for sure because he hasn’t heard from Melo himself! In reports that came out yesterday, Phil is saying he feels confident that he made a connection with Melo and thinks they are on track to re-sign him but the same reports say Phil has been texting him and getting no reply for close to a week. That may be the reason the rumors of Melo giving strong consideration again to joining the Bulls after it seemed Chicago missed their chance. Hit the jump.

Knicks President Phil Jackson was expecting a decision from Carmelo Anthony on Thursday.

”But I expected one yesterday and the day before yesterday,” Jackson said. ”But no, we’re waiting.”

Those comments sound like even Phil is frustrated with the slow motion moves Carmelo seems to be making. Speaking to reporters at the Knicks’ summer league practice in Las Vegas, Jackson said he has texted Anthony a couple of times since then, but hasn’t gotten a response. But he felt confident about keeping the All-Star forward after their last discussion.

”I felt really good about my conversation with Carmelo. We really struck a chord,” Jackson said. ”The two of us, I think feel really passionately about what we’re trying to get accomplished. It’s his ability to stay, be patient, lead and watch us develop a winner.”

Technically speaking, Carmelo doesn’t have to make a decision for at least another week if he really wants to. He gains nothing by announcing his plans earlier than that, although fans are dying to know what will happen.

Hopefully the fact Melo hasn’t been contacting Phil is just him trying to have his own time and not just brushing Phil and the Knicks off.
