(Video) Will Smith Says Jada Would Have Boycotted The Oscars Even If He Was Nominated For ‘Concussion’

Last month, Jada Pinkett Smith called for a boycott of the 88th Academy Awards in response to the #OscarsSoWhite controversy. She was immediately backed by her husband Will, and other Hollywood names like Spike Lee. However many felt, Jada’s call for diversity had a lot to do with her husband not being nominated for his outstanding performance in the ‘Concussion’ film. In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw, Will Smith cleared up these accusations saying, his wife still would have boycotted the Oscars, even if he was nominated. Read more below.

NFL: Doctor Behind “Concussion Movie” Believes OJ Simpson Has Been Suffering From CTE

The neuropathologist who first discovered chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in NFL players said he believes that O.J. Simpson is suffering from the degenerative brain disease. (Video) Will Smith Talks Oscars Controversy & Jada’s Video On GMA

As controversy around the Oscars and their lack of diversity continues to grow, Will Smith appeared on Good Morning America this morning to discuss his stance on the situation. His wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, recently called for a boycott of the show from people of color, and some have accused her of only taking the stance because Will was snubbed in this year’s nominations. While Will acknowledges that could have played a small part in her reaction, he says that for the most part, it’s not about him, and she would have made the video either way. As for whether he’ll be in attendance this year, the seasoned actor says:

“No, my wife’s not going. It would be awkward to show up with Charlize … we’ve discussed it. … We’re part of this community. But at this current time, we’re uncomfortable to stand there and say this is OK.”

Will noted the lack of diversity, and calmly explained that he knows it is hard to get diverse, cultural sampling from 94% Caucasian, 77% male group of Academy members. I think he articulated his points quite well, and definitely got them across. Check out the GMA interview below and let us know your thoughts!

Review: ‘Concussion’ Doesn’t Hit Hard Against NFL but an American Dream is Realized & CTE Becomes Real

“Tell the truth” – Dr. Bennet Omalu (Will Smith) From the first time I saw the trailer for the movie Concussion that scene stood out the most to me. Hype surrounding the movie promised a film taking on the mighty NFL and exposing the world to CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopathy) and it’s affect on our beloved football stars. While it indeed tackled that issue (how strongly is subjective), what I also drew from it was the story of a man trying to live the American dream.
