Twitter, a U.S based company, has agreed that they would release names of twitter users who are racist to the French Authority who want to bring these users to justice. The French believe that the right to bring these users to justice is greater than the right a person has to anonymity.

This case started when the Union of Jewish Students of France asked Twitter to remove tweets such as “#agoodjew is a dead jew” and brought them to court when they did not respond. Twitter’s response was that they were following free speech laws of the U.S. rather than free speech laws of France. This resulted in Twitter eventually caving and agreeing to aid in the fight to stop racism and anti-semitism.

Twitter has already shut down an account run by an pro-Nazi organization, so they mean business. Who will be the next country to stop the racism? Is twitter ruining our rights of free speech, even if it is racist and anti-semitic comments? What do you think?
