BET Set To Do A Series Based On Nas’ Life

BET did their thing with “The New Edition” movie. They are now set to move on with a series now revolving around rapper Nas. The series will be called “Street Dreams” which will be an hour-long series based on Nas’ life.

Photo Credit: BET [Screenshot] Dave East had a breakout 2016, landing the XXL Freshman cover, touring the country, charting with his Kairi Chanel mixtape and most notably, signing a record deal with Def Jam. Now he’ll be kicking off 2017 with another major accolade – his first acting gig. The Harlem rapper will appear on the season premiere of BET’s Being Mary Jane. In a preview of the cameo, Dave can be seen playing himself, performing on a show and then being interviewed by Gabrielle Union’s character. Gaby has previously stated in interviews that she’s a fan of East’s music, so it wouldn’t be surprising if his appearance was a personal request from the star herself! Check out the clip below. Being Mary Jane premieres on January 10.


Gabrielle Union Settles ‘Being Mary Jane’ Lawsuit With BET

Earlier this fall, Gabrielle Union filed a lawsuit against BET Networks over their show that she stars in, Being Mary Jane. In the suit, Gaby alleged that they’d breached their contract by trying to squeeze two seasons of episodes into one, so that they didn’t have to pay her the extra money per episode she was guaranteed in the next season. The actress was seeking more than $1 million in damages, as well as to have her contract amended immediately to reflect their oral agreement of 13 max episodes per season. Today, they announced the suit is not only settled, but a release date for the next season has been set!

DJ Khaled Teams Up With BET To Launch A College Tour Using Snapchat

Social Media Mogul DJ Khaled, BET Networks and Get Schooled have now teamed up to introduce a new venture that will include kids, college tours, and Snapchat! Yes, Snapchat! Students will now get a chance to indulge into college tours by using Snap. With the support of BET Networks and the help of Get Schooled alumni, Get Schooled will host 12 college tours on its Snapchat account through 2016.


Gabrielle Union Sues BET Over ‘Being Mary Jane’

It appears that fans are going to have to wait even longer for the next season of Gabrielle Union’s hit show Being Mary Jane. Gabrielle just filed a lawsuit against the show’s network, BET, claiming they’re trying to get her to do two seasons for the price of one. Gabrielle says that network execs promised her multiple times that there would never be more than 13 episodes in a season. Her contract also states that she gets a pay raise from $150k per episode to $165k per episode in Season 5. Instead, BET is reportedly trying to cram 20 episodes into season 4 and spacing them out, instead of making it two seasons!


DJ Khaled Announced As Host Of 2016 BET Hip-Hop Awards

It’s another one for DJ Khaled! The artist/producer/personality has been announced as the host of this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards. He is also up for 9 nominations that night: ‘DJ of the Year,’ ‘Best Hip-Hop Video,’ ‘MVP of the Year,’ ‘Track of the Year,’ ‘Album of the Year,’ ‘Hustler of the Year,’ ‘People’s Champ Award’ and two nods for ‘Best Collabo, Duo or Group.’ “I am extremely honored to be a part of such an incredible show that has watched me grow as an artist and mogul throughout my career,” Khaled said in a press release. “The Hip Hop Awards are synonymous with a night of stellar performances and tributes to the greatest hip hop artists of our time. I am excited to bring cloth talk and the major keys to the Hip Hop Awards for an iconic and memorable show!”
